Forecasting

Read EAC today and design an attributable forecast workflow

CostGrid can display actual, ETC, EAC and variance positions inside a project. The current release has no owner/reason/version workflow for entering or revising ETC, so the controls below describe the required next step.

Where control breaks

Recognise the warning signs

  • Forecast equals budget by default
  • ETC overrides erase prior values
  • Variance has no drill-through

The CostGrid control path

01

Clear formula

EAC equals recognised actual cost plus the expected remaining cost.

02

Owned assumptions — planned

A future mutation must record owner, date, reason and version for every manual ETC change without erasing prior values.

03

Useful variance

Compare approved budget with EAC and trace the adverse drivers by WBS and cost code.

Operational outcome

Use the current read view cautiously; forecast authoring is not operational until the attributable write workflow is implemented.

Control one live project before expanding

Start with one live project, keep the control trail intact, and expand only after the workflow proves useful.
